Robert A. Clarfeld founded the company in 1981 in New York City. A CPA with a keen ability to help people achieve their financial goals, over 35 years he has grown what was a one-man business into one of the leading global family wealth management boutiques. Although Rob is CEO, his favorite roles are Keeper of the Vision and Mentor-in-Chief. Rob is also a member of the Investment Policy Committee.
Rob has extensive experience with financially successful families and family-owned businesses. He advises professionals and senior corporate executives and their families, both domestic and abroad.
Clients come to revere his financial advice which is infused with a unique mix of straightforwardness, warmth, informality, and a sense of humor. His wisdom comes from a keen grasp of psychology and a deep understanding of the complexities families encounter as they navigate the minefields of financial and interpersonal issues.
Mentoring talent is a key interest of Rob’s, as he is deeply committed to the growth of his partners and their ultimate role in a succession plan that ensures continued vision, warmth and commitment to clients.
Rob is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Planner®, and Personal Financial Specialist, and has assumed leadership positions in related industry organizations. Rob speaks and writes about all aspects of wealth management.
Rob is actively involved in many community and philanthropic organizations. He is a Director for the Westchester County Association, Director; President of the Tarrytown Music Hall, Trustee of the Devereux Millwood Learning Center, and serves on the Capital Campaign for Chapel Haven. He is former chairman of the Westchester Public Issues Institute.
Prior to founding Clarfeld Financial Advisors, Rob worked at Arthur Young & Company (now Ernst & Young) and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company (now KPMG).
Rob has led the development of the firm’s international practice and considers London a second home. He enjoys traveling the world, bicycling, hiking, photography and playing guitar. Clearly finding more than 24 hours in each day, Rob is an avid attendee of rock concerts, theatre and sporting events.
Rob is married and he has two sons. Additional members of Rob’s family include his beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniels – Aston and Emma – who occasionally have the pleasure of accompanying him to work.
